Worth It Driving School
Worth It Driving School is operated by Darren Worthington as a sole trader (ABN 38 279 508 839). We provide driving lessons in Dapto and the surrounding Illawarra. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” means Worth It Driving School, and “you” means anyone who visits worthitdrivingschool.com.au, books a lesson, or is a learner with us.
We care about looking after the details you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
Most of the time we collect information directly from you, for example when you fill in a form or booking on our website, call, text or email us, or come along to a lesson. If a parent, guardian or organisation books on a learner’s behalf, we collect the learner’s details from them.
We use personal information to:
Sometimes a learner may tell us about a health or medical matter that could affect their driving, such as a condition on their licence, a medication, or a need for glasses. Health information is sensitive, so we only collect what is relevant to teaching safely, only with your agreement, and we give it extra care. We do not share it with anyone else unless you agree or the law requires it.
You are welcome to contact us with a general question without giving your details. For lessons, though, NSW law asks us to record the learner’s name, address, phone number and driver licence number, so we are not able to take a learner out without them. If you would rather not share other details, just let us know and we will work out what is possible.
Many of our learners are under 18. Where a parent or guardian books or pays for lessons, we may share booking details, lesson times and general progress with them. If a learner would prefer we handled something differently, we are always glad to talk about it.
We do not sell personal information. We only share it where it helps us provide our service or where the law requires it, including with:
Some of the providers we use, including our website, booking and payment providers, may store information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. Before information is handled overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is looked after in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
If you have agreed to hear from us, we may occasionally send news, reminders about upcoming school holidays, or special offers. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email, replying STOP to a text message, or letting us know directly. Booking confirmations and lesson reminders will still come through, because they are part of the service.
We store information in secure, password protected systems and limit access to those who need it. NSW law asks driving instructors to keep lesson records for five years, so we keep those records for at least that long. Other information is deleted or de-identified when we no longer need it.
You are welcome to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct anything that is out of date or wrong. Just contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to confirm your identity first. In the rare cases where the law does not allow us to give access, we will explain why.
Our website uses cookies to help it work properly, to remember your booking details during checkout, and to understand how visitors use the site. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, although some parts of the site, such as online booking, may not work as smoothly without them.
We only publish a learner’s name, photo, video or comments on our website or social media with their permission, or a parent or guardian’s permission for learners under 18. You can ask us to remove them at any time.
If you have a question or concern about how we have handled your information, please get in touch with Darren and we will do our best to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on our website, with the date it was last updated at the top.
